Villisca, The EVP vs SB7 spirit box.

While going through my recorder yesterday I noticed that I had some EVPs. I was a little surprised as I thought that the SB7 (sometimes known as "spirit Box" or "ghost box"), would pick up everything. It is supposed to be the easiest system for the spirits to use. They have white noise and sounds from radio stations to paste into words and phrases.

The spirit box does NOT pick up everything, and it is still a bit of a mystery as to how this all works.

I still have sessions to go through, and this particular session had NO ghost box running during it. It seems that the longer we were there, the louder and more clear the voices became. I do know that an investigator had her new camera and SB7 batteries sucked dry. She couldn't use either until we left and replaced them. Maybe the spirits used her batteries to communicate better and louder. They are communicating in a different way than those who use the spirit box. We already knew this to be true, however it seems that some spirits who talk on recorders must be older and stronger than spirits who use the SB7.

It looks like you should use EVP recorders to get the older spirits of a place to communicate, and the SB7 for newer. Then last night I had a thought. Maybe the SB7 picks up spirits that aren't even in the location. They are using radio station waves that are all around us. I posed the question to our founder and he agreed it was a possibility. Maybe next time we will have to ask "Where are you?" The old spirits would have to be right there with us for the recorders to pick up their voices, however, do the spirits who use the ghost box? Can they, like the DJ , be miles away? I guess that is a question for Gary Galka. I DO know that when we run recorders and spirit box. We get different voices/answers on both. This means that not only are they using different methods to communicate, btu the SB7 voices cannot be spirits in the room as they do not make a "double voice" on the recorder. It is not a combination of a clear voice and a static ridden voice box voice saying the same thing at the same time. I don't think the SB7 spirits are near enough to us to be picked up by the recorder.

We received VERY different style, attitude and response from the old spirits than the ones on the ghost box. The ones on the ghost box were curt, rude, cursing and never gave any information. The recorder had just the opposite. I think I will stick with my recorder. I always thought that the spirit box was a cool thing, but now I see no need for it, and am not sure exactly where it is picking up from. It is also hard to hear and decipher sometimes. Our team member who has one is going to try a differnt type of speaker, we will see if theat clarifies the responses. Every time we asked how many spirits were int he house on the SB7, we had no answer. Maybe because they didn't know. Maybe they are just passing through or aren't even in the house! When I asked those same questions last year on the recorder I not only got a total, but was told how many males and how many females were in the house. This doesn't mean the spirit box cannot answer those questions, but I think it picks up newer, weaker spirits. They aren't exactly the best sources of information and certainly not as good as old spirits. I guess it is our craving for instant satisfaction that makes the spirit boxes and Shack hacks so popular.

I still suggest a good paranormal investigation team use both systems.

I still am not sure if my recorded voices are of the Moore or Stillinger family.. We don't have anything to prove or disprove that. I do however have a child singing, and I would think that is more likely a Moore child (it sounds like a boy). I have a song, an "OK", and a spirit mimicking me with "all say" after I said to a fellow investigator, "that's what they all say". I have more on that first session including footsteps and thumps that we heard with our own ears. I still have a couple of sessions to go.

When you can only afford one tool, buy a recorder. Not only will you pick up spirits , but you will have a record of it for later, where with the spirit box, unless you attach a recorder, or tape it with a video camera, the replies will be lost.

The EVPs are being put with video so they can be posted and I will post them at a later date.

There is so much good stuff out there to discover and methods to fine tune. Just remember, do NOT learn all you know from a TV show, and learn from different groups and people. Experiment and see what happens!

Villisca Part III

This weekend we visited The Villisca Axe Murder House for the third time. The first time was absolutely awesome. We had family members answering, information on the murders, and answers to our questions that were clear and decisive. We had little children singing and talking. We had a VERY creepy house full of things including what we assumed to be the axe murderer. A spirit who interacted both verbally and physically.

This trip was totally different, the one before, also was. There was a lot of spirit activity, but it wasn't all that nice. There were lots of names given and different voices on the voice box, but no real communication. No answers to questions. There were a few "F*&$ you"s and other swear words. There were mostly men's voices. There was no response to questions, especially about the murder.

We had stomps upstairs (probably the "murderer" who is still there); creaks; people getting touched; strange light anomalies (most of which were blue for some reason). We have yet to really go over any evidence, so I can't say if we caught anything or not, but the feel of the place is entirely different.

I don't even believe the family is still there. I didn't feel them , get any response form them, or any evidence of them that night. When a house if full of creepy men, a mother spirit may take her children and moved on.

Some groups have come into the house with all kinds of things, and doing all kinds of rituals etc. None of this is allowed, but that doesn't stop people. Someone may have crossed the spirits of the family over, which is nice, but again, against the policy of the house. After all what good is a haunted house without spirits. The spirits that are there now are basically low life idiots. Now that means you can have a haunt, but when you have spirits that just tell you to "F*&^ off", then that one sound bite isn't worth the trip. We had several spirits give names, or curse at us, but no real communication as in responding to questions. This happens when people go into places and try to bring spirits in. They do seances and bring in Ouiji boards to contact spirits. When you are in a genuine haunted site, a seance and a Ouiji Board (NEVER USE THEM) are totally unnecessary. However there are a bunch of folks running around out there that do not have a clue.

There isn't a "Ghost investigation" test that you have to take before entering a haunted site, so many of these sites are getting ruined by those with good (and bad),  intent that don't understand what they are doing, nor care. They also don't seem to care what the "house rules" are. They figure they are there to make decisions for the owners on what the house should be like.NO site that does these tours allows Ouiji boards, rituals, crossing over rituals, etc.....NONE.

The Villisca house is still haunted, but not half as much fun as it used to be. Many haunted sites are now making sure they have a guide with groups at all times, this is to make sure nothing is ruined, including the integrity of the site as a haunted site. Some places are insisting that you belong to a paranormal group. I am not sure how they can prove that and after all, belonging to a paranormal group doesn't make you smart and responsible. I have seen paranormal groups use flashlights for communication (no it doesn't work AT ALL), and claim that the red area of a K2 indicates a demon (more likely a normal electrical source). I know a group who "sets up angels" at every site they investigate (really, when did they get that permission, right and power???) So there are the uninformed out there with club shirts on.....it doesn't make a difference.

I just hope people will LEARN and stop doing ANYTHING at a site EXCEPT investigating.

Unfortunately it is too late for Villisca. The atmosphere and opportunity for a good INVESTIGATION into the murders, rather than a just a "haunt",  is lost. Maybe I will find evidence of the family on my voice recorder or DVR, but it was much more interesting and enjoyable to communicate with them in the past rather than the "F bombs" of the present.

When you want to visit a site, get there before some well meaning person ruins it!

Pow wows and drums

We had a wonderful time at the Rockport pow wow. We saw some old friends and made new ones. There were some issues, like a mic not working on Saturday, and being stopped after we started a song, but we persevered.

Our drum strives to do things the best we can. We have permission for every song we sing. We follow drum protocol and teach others as often as possible. We built the drum ourselves and we built it in a strict and sacred way. The entire building was in ceremony.

We welcome people to sit at our drum, but we also do not allow people who are in any way harmful to the drum near it. When people disrespect the drum, they no longer sit on the drum.We ask questions of people that we consider wiser.

We are a group of people who are friends/family, not just drum members.

When Matt and I first were asked about doing a pow wow we had to think. We weren't building the drum to go on the "pow wow circut". I have a business that runs 7 days a week. I volunteer with a raptor program, am an ordained minister, and help with paranormal investigations. I do cleansings and blessings in three different styles. Matt works, builds flutes, and is also in the paranormal group. We didn't want to spend our weekends running all over the midwest drumming. We love drumming, but it is a lifestyle that will take up every weekend you have.

First we asked a lot of questions. We asked established drums that we respected and that we knew followed protocol. We asked elders, we asked everyone we could think of. Their response was all the same.....you will meet a ton of nasty people who all think their opinion is the only one that matters; you will see more jealousy and misinformation than actual help; stand up for yourself and be strong, but don't be nasty or pack up your drum , storm off or run away. Remain strong. Write as many songs or re-arrange as many songs as you can. Lastly...practice. That was it, from everyone we talked to. That is also exactly what we do.

We have met a few nasty people. They are the unhappy of the world, and they think they have special information or entitlement. We deal with them strongly and firmly whenever we "meet" them. We disregard misinformation, and we certainly stand up for ourselves and we are strong. We have yet to walk away, although there have been times when I wanted to tell someone to "F____ off" , "drop dead" or more often..."grow up". The idiots are out there. They forget why they are there. Pow wows aren't about your way, they are about everyone's way. I have had people go out and spread flat out lies, and sadly all were ex members of the drum. They left because we wouldn't do things their way....well they can build a drum and do things their way. The door is open. You would think that the people who become involved with such a spiritual pursuit as drumming can be so ridiculous, but it sure happens. It has happened to other drums, probably just about every drum.

Personal issues, emotional and mental issues, ego and self righteousness are rife in the drum world.

We are always honored when people want to sit at the drum for a song or two. We had two guest drummers this year, and two last year, and it is always an honor. Sometimes the guests become regulars. We strive more than anything to teach, and love to work with children. The energy of our drum pulls people in . Ego drums pull egos in, spiteful drums pull spiteful people in , good vibrations pull good people in . We never accept payment for drumming. We drum for free. A blanket dance is appreciated, but we don't demand a flat fee from anyone. Not from a pow wow, a wedding or a teaching.

This weekend a young man made a grave error that was compounded by more ignornace of the way to do things. Youngsters will make mistakes, but it didn't go unnoticed. We however rolled through it, letting Creator decide what to do about it.

There is always something that happens, and we always roll through it and beyond it. Although we are not always quiet about it. When you are quiet, no one learns and no one grows. It isn't easy, but no one said it would be.

I remain my Grandmother's Peshaui Wequashimese.

Do the right things for the right reasons.

Predjudice still flowing years after 9 /11

Living in a way that is truly spiritual means living not only a love based life, but a positive life. It means more than either one of those , living a fearless life. Fear generates hate. When living the truly spiritual life you will be able to allow each and everyone their way. You won't bash, ridicule, defame, or set out to personally harm anyone or anything. You allow the Universe to make the decisions, but you always do what is right. That means if there is a crime to report, you report it, and step back.

Many waste their time getting upset or fearful over events, and always....yes always, blown up accounts of facts. No one checks facts anymore. No one bothers to see if something is true if it strikes a positive chord with them, they pass it on perpetuating the hate, the lies, the upset, the fear.

People use 9/11 as a platform to voice their views. How pathetic is that? It is not a platform. It is an event that was horrible, and it really had a huge impact on the northeast, and the country. I know, I saw the smoke, I saw Flight 93 fly over my house. I knew people in the city (what we called New York City), at the time. Many laws we have today resulted from that attack. However, using it as a reason to hate anyone, Muslims in particular, is pathetic, prejudicial, uninformed and hateful. Maligning any group, race or religion is all of those things.

I studied religion both times that I worked on degrees in other fields. I know that the Muslim religion isn't about hate, killing, or treating your fellow man poorly. It is just the opposite. It is about community, love, charity, and living a faith based day. People associate the Muslim religion with the 9/11 attacks. These men were not following the Muslim religion, they were crazy extremists who maligned their words and teachings. They are the Westboro Church or the IRA. Would you want your religion represented as a whole by such a group as Westboro? Well when you malign the Muslim religion, you do just that.

Being ignorant of a fact is OK, it is a learning opportunity. Not wanting to know the truth is being ignorant, and that is a whole other issue. You cannot act ignorant and be spiritual. The two are mutually exclusive.

When you put down any religion, race, way or lifestyle, YOU are the one who is doing wrong. You are the one who will receive the teachings of Karma. You are the one who will  have a string of "bad days" as your hard lessons are learned.

Never hate, and never fear. Never pass along information that you have not checked out, and checked out the right way.

Recently a person sent me articles on a cause she believed in. I checked them out and they all were either false, had improper procedures (things we all learned how to do in high school done incorrectly), or the "scholars" and doctors writing the articles were not recognized by anyone (especially the AMA), except the group pushing for their desired results. Any 14 year old high school student could properly research and see the stores didn't hold water. None of them. Research means checking facts, not reading and believing. Research means looking for proof of the opposite of what you believe and weighing both carefully. Then I was labeled "negative" (first time I have been called that!), for not watching yet another inane video.

Make sure that you are not being gullible. People have a bad habit of reading the hate , the rumors, the dirt they want to hear, and buying it lock, stock and barrel. They then remain the most uneducated and aware folks on the planet, although they will tell you how "informed" they are.

Don't hate. Do unto others, and get your act together. Don't pass it on until you check it out. Do the right things FOR THE RIGHT REASONS!

Vacation and a dose of spooky

This past week my husband and I headed to the Grand Teton National Park. We had been there for a day a couple of years ago when we went to Yellowstone. We loved the amazingly beautiful mountains. They soar up over the landscape in sharp contrast to the world around them. The mountains didn't rise so much as the land around them sunk. The spot that sunk is now known as Jackson Hole (once Jasckson's Hole), and it has become a place for overpriced skiing and shopping.A few of the peaks have glaciers on them, and the "permanent snow" is beautiful to behold.

The park however, is like all national parks, a bargain. You pay $25 to enter it , go in and out, for 7 days. That is $3.57 a day for a carload. It is the best bargain around. When in Teton, you can enter Yellowstone (literally just up the road) with the Teton admission pass. Two parks for the price of one.

Those with not a lot to spend can camp. There are wonderful sites and a grocery, laundry, showers (real ones), and everything else a camper would want. Then in the middle are cabins. Just a room with a bathroom , but the cabins at Colter Bay are all old cabins moved to the site when ranches and other business/homes were deserted for the park use. Ours was a cabin that was part of a retreat for wealthy young girls. Ironically it was called Half Moon cabin (and we have a pow wow drum named "new" moon). Those with bigger bucks to spend can stay in the lodges that are like fancy hotels, but to me I think that is missing the essence of the park.We had a wonderful time there hiking, looking at the scenery, wandering around Jackson, learning the history and visiting the raptor center. We spoke to people from Germany, France, Canada, Japan, Russia, India and England. Hearing the different languages and seeing how they all appreciated the park, reminded me how we all arrived here. We had two rangers helping that were American Indians, so it was all rounded out. The rangers however, got to stay.

We took a million pictures that I need to upload yet, and hiked about 25 miles, walked even more. Hiking in high altitude is not for the out of shape. I was so glad that I have been running again, as I didn't have a problem at all. Some poor woman had a heart attack on a trail and it took over an hour to get to her and medivac her out. I don't know how that turned out for her , but I hope she made it. People don't realize the altitude most of the time. You can usually walk around on flat surface just fine, but stairs, hills, and climbing, grab you in the lungs and make you realize where you are. Mother Nature ALWAYS wins.

The cell phone availability is hit or miss, and there is no internet except in the lobbies of the different housing areas. There is no TV, no radio....don't worry you won't miss it for a second.

We will return to the park one day.

I did find that on the way home that there was a place that is haunted. A closed prison. When it opened it was called the Wyoming Frontier Prison and later the Wyoming Penitentiary. It is in good shape. They offer history tours all day long on the half hour during the temperate months. There is no heat in the winter, so there are no tours then (when the prison was operational, the inside temperature was only 20 degrees warmer than the outside, many froze to death). The prison , or actually museum , was only 1 block off the road where we were traveling.

It is haunted...very. The history of the place and the stories about it are interesting and amazing. The exhibits they have there, and the condition of the place are also amazing. It is well worth the visit just to get an idea about frontier life. The architecture is wonderful and the entryway even includes a stained glass window. We plan on returning for a nighttime investigation. I am sure it will be great. The prison was on an episode of Ghost Adventures recently and well worth checking out.

So we saw the beauty of the Tetons, and visited a raptor center that is saving many raptors. We hiked, we ate, we read books together in our snuggly cabin. We saw animals, such as bear, elk, pronghorn, moose, mule deer, chipmunks, and squirrels. We saw many birds, including the Sandhill crane. It was awesomeness at its' best. Then we tossed in some more history and a dose of the paranormal, and came home.

Hopefully it will not take long to return!

Wyoming, you are a beautiful state! Thanks for the visit!
