HAPPY HALLOWEEN

Today we dress in costumes to confuse and scare away the evil spirits. Beware at crossroads, and jump over fires to keep the demons from following you! Tell your best stories, or sing a song to get treats from appreciative listeners, and make sure you light your turnip (they didn't have pumpkins in the Old World to use), to see your way and scare away the things that go bump in the night. It is Halloween!

Why all this strange behavior? It's All Hallow's Eve, or Samhain (pronounced Sow Wen). This is a traditional holiday of the pagans and Pagans (there is a difference), and it was even outlawed for a time. The holiday was most popular in Great Britain, but was also celebrated in western Europe where it began as a harvest festival. There was even a witch who dropped presents down chimneys! Sounds familiar, doesn't it? Samhain marked the "end of summer" and the beginning of the dark half of the year.

The wall between the two worlds is said to be thinnest on this night. Divination games were played by some, and others did rituals to keep the dark and evil entities from slipping through in to this world. It is said nature spirits, like fairies roamed the earth on this night pulling pranks.

The celebration was forbidden by the church for a while as being Satanistic, and the Puritans outlawed it for many years, but it had a resurgence of popularity in the 1920's. It was more of an adult party holiday at that time, but now has taken on its' old customs with bonfires and some form of trick or treating, all around the world. Costumes that not only scare away the evil spirits, but entertain.

The church tried to draw the people back in with All Saints Day (November 1) but it wasn't the same. It didn't make the people feel secure as their old traditions did, and they never completely died. Today Halloween is the biggest celebration of all, and its' sales of decorations and costumes outsells Christmas! There are "haunted house" attractions, parties, contests, and the day is more "fun" than protective to many, yet the Pagans still celebrate it in the older traditions. We have a bonfire every year, and my husband always leaps through (better him than me!).

Enjoy the day and if you are going out, whether trick or treating or to a party, be careful out there! Prayers to the east coast, may they soon be able to have their Halloween celebrations!

Happy Halloween!

No ghost story today

Today I am going to use the time to sit quietly and send reiki to the east coast. The storm there as done major damage and several people have died due to the storm. My ex mother in law has a tree on her house, and one friend had to be evacuated by boat.My children, all the way in PA have lost power, and people in NY  and NJ have no idea when they will get power back on. Many friends are in the cold and dark with the storm still raging outside.

There are also animals, pets and wild,  birds, and sealife effected by these storms. These storms are are not a joke, they are killers. Many people do not flee and end up paying dearly. There are still people trapped in areas that rescue workers cannot get to.

Please take a moment today to send your prayers to the east coast. The mighty ocean is nothing to take lightly.

Thank you

Ghost cat

Many have heard this story, but I will tell it again since I mentioned it the other day. The house in Paterson was a scene for many paranormal experiences. The one that was probably the least scary , yes I said least, was the ghost cat.

We had a real, live cat at the time, we had not progressed to four cats yet. He was a grey tiger and thin as a rail. He was an in and out cat. He came and went as he pleased, but spent each night in the house. There were a few strays and other people's cats in the neighborhood, and my Grandmother had a bad habit of inviting in every tiger cat that came near the door. She couldn't distinguish our cat, aptly named Tiger, from the others. Tiger didn't seem to mind if others took his spot and came in, so he could chase more birds and mice, and the strays didn't mind a chance to get a bite to eat.

The way our living room was set up, you could sit on the couch and look across the room to the stairs that went to the second floor. It was a side view through the rails on the side of the stairway. One night, my Mom saw a cat go up the stairs. It was a fluffy solid grey cat. No stripes, no tiger markings.  She was up late readings and her immediate thought was that a stray had made its' way in. I was in bed, and so was everyone else, but my Mom. She quietly went up to look for the cat. She looked as best she could without waking the whole house, and finally gave up. She figured it would get out in the morning.

The next day, no cat. After puzzling over that for a bit, she forgot about it. We figured it shot out past us when someone went outside. A few weeks later, I was sitting on the couch next to her reading a book. She said "Look, see the cat , it got in again!" I saw the cat going up the stairs. We both began a thorough search for the cat. We couldn't find it. We finally gave up.

During this time, my Grandmother passed away, and she wasn't around to let in strays.Life went on, the hauntings ramped up a bit, but I knew it wasn't her. One night while talking to my mother she said  "There is the cat", I turned and sure enough the cat was making its' way up the stairs.  I ran up and she did too....no, we didn't find the cat. We also realized my Grandmother was no longer there to let in strays, and besides this was not a tiger cat, she wouldn't mistake it. My tiger cat was a killer. He was one tough tom. He never hissed, chased or even regarded the other "cat". How strange. Now things are getting a little strange to us. We had not yet imagined a ghost cat, but he was a mystery.

We were starting to wonder where the cat was coming from and going and could find no place of entry or exit (if there were one Tiger would be using it too). Weeks went by, one night my mother and I were sitting on the couch again, and up went the cat. She said "Do you see the cat?". I said "Nope", she said "Me either.

From then on we stopped wasting our time and let the little spirit cat make its' way up (never down) the stairs. He was as solid as you or I, and never said a meow, but he wasn't really there in the way you or I are. Today I would call him a residual haunting. He was just another resident of the haunted house we called home. He was seen a few more times by us, then we just stopped looking up when we saw something just out of view on the stairs. Wonder what other things we missed....

I have seen another ghost cat, so they are out there.

Happy Haunting!

Blankets move?

How often have we seen in the movies a scene where a person gets a blanket snatched off of them? It is almost a cliche', yet it happens.

When I lived in our haunted house in Paterson, NJ, we had all kinds of things go on for a while. Things were escalating, and although my Mom believed it, she never directly experienced it. She heard the noises, she heard and believed my stories, but I think she talked herself out of the few things that happened to her...until the blanket incident and the ghost cat was seen walking up the stairs.

One night after having blankets pulled off a few times over the past week. She decided that before she went to bed she was going to lock the cats in the basement. She was convinced they were pulling on her blankets. I wanted the cats upstairs. All four of them surrounded me at night and were a warm , furry wall of protection. She insisted. I made a deal that if her blankets moved we were not going to lock them in the basement any more. Deal.

We shared a room, two twin beds. The next morning, her alarm went off and she said "I am so tired, those darned cats kept me up all night again. I would pull, they would pull back, we had a tug of war, they are really getting fiesty about it" I said...."Mom, you locked the cats in the basement."

Moment of complete silence......

She was sure they had managed to get the door open. There was a hook and eye lock on it that kept it closed all the way, and locked , of course. She thought maybe she forgot to lock it and then they pushed through. We went downstairs, and you guessed it. The door was closed, and locked.

I said...Yes those darn cats, they even managed to lock themselves back in the basement.

That earned me a look, and the cats were allowed to sleep upstairs from then on again. Apparently the blanket pulling was worse with them in the basement. Maybe someone was just trying to make a point. Maybe it was the ghost cat.....all I know is that if it wanted to make a point, it did.

Time for another Ghost Story

I could tell so many ghost stories. I lived in a haunted house for 17 years, then moved into another one for about a year. One other home, I would not call haunted, but it had "something in the basement". I also had experiences outside of those homes.

We had a home in Pennsylvania that was a neat little ranch. The basement was fully finished. There was carpet, paneling, windows, a bar, a family room area. It was not creepy at all. Yet if you ventured into the one corner (where our computer was set up), it was downright creepy. You always felt that you were being watched.

The creepy feeling was most of the experience. There weren't voices or things being moved. The only thing a person would notice who didn't give in to the creep feeling, was that it was always cold there. The basement was heated, sure it was a little cooler than the upstairs, but it wasn't "cold". I would quilt down there and I would stay far away from that corner unless I had to use the computer.

When you sat there it was so cold your fingers would get stiff, your toes numb, and your bones chilled. Yet nothing ever happened. Nothing moved, nothing made a sound.

I didn't think much of it, until my young daughter would run up the stairs after turning off the lights. There was a switch at the top of the stairs in the kitchen, but the light it attached to had a string pull too, so sometimes you had to venture to the actual light to turn it off or on. When I asked her what was going on, she said there is something creepy down there. She felt it too.

The day before our closing to buy the house, the lady who lived there died suddenly. She was in a parking lot of a picture framing store after dropping off a picture to be framed. She sat in her car, had a massive heart attack and died. Our closing was of course moved out a week or so, but we closed and moved in. I don't know if it was her just guarding over the house. She never really had a chance to settle into her new home. It was not ready for them yet (it was being built), and they were living with her mother at the time. Her husband was devastated.

I would think she wouldn't hang out in the basement, but come up and enjoy the house she loved for so long, but then again she may have not wanted to intrude on the new family. I don't think it was her however. When you visit enough haunted places, you realize there is a "feeling" that means something is there, and then there are varying degrees of CREEPY. Creepy can be an unhappy , grouchy spirit, to something not of this earth. I never figured out what was down there. I left it alone and it left me alone. I never got an impression of a person, gender, or name, which is unusual. I guess I will never know. Today I would be down there asking questions with a recorder in my hand, but that wasn't what we did in those days not so long ago!

When we sold the house I didn't mention it . I didn't feel anyone was in danger there, as it never did a thing to us over the years , except make us cold. There were no ghost shows and such at the time, I would have most likely been labeled a nutcase.  I wonder if the new family in the house (which included two little boys), ever felt anything. I think there is a new family in there now.

I had never discussed the creepy feeling with her, after all, who wants to scare a kid of about 6 years old. She didn't have any concept of ghosts and such at that age, yet she felt it too. It is funny how some ghost stories aren't dramatic, yet the creepy feeling in that area was one of the worst I have ever felt, only topped by my house in New Mexico and the Axe Murder House in Villisca.

There are creepy spots all over this planet. They are exciting to find, yet not so much fun when they are in your basement.

Manifesting requires patience

I love to quilt. Love it. I know as a quilter that the better (and more expensive), the equipment, the easier it is to get great results. There are tools that allow precision and simplicity. One of them is an expensive sewing machine.

I have an expensive sewing machine, but it is not a machine made for quilters. Quilting has become such a huge industry that there are special machines for piecing quilts, and quilting quilts. Machines specialize in embroidering, quilting, and couture sewing.

My machine works well, but not for tiny pieces with tiny seams. I was told it was great for quilting, and it is, but "quilting" as in putting the 3 layers together, not in piecing. Precise piecing has always been a challenge with this machine.

A few months ago I started looking for a good quilt piecing machine. I researched and found what I wanted, but for some reason (big dollars most likely), the sewing machine industry doesn't like to say what these machines cost. I knew it would be expensive, but there are $800 machines, and there are $4000.00 machines. It is kind of hard to figure if you can buy it now, later or not at all when you don't know the price. (I would love a long arm quilting machine, but those run about $6000-10,000).

We went to a local machine retailer and they didn't carry the one I wanted. They told me what I had was better. Well, I do have a top of the line machine, but I am not sewing clothes most of the time. They almost talked me out of looking for a new machine. I went home and worked on the quilt I was working on, very small pieces are very difficult to manage.....the fabric doesn't cover the feed dogs with the 1/4" seam allowance, and things go sideways. So I was inspired to keep looking. I found prices ranging all over the place. The nearest retailer was in Illinois about 80- miles away.

So, I finally got smart and said, "Universe find me this machine, this model, this shape for under this price". It took the Universe about 3 weeks. It found one. I had been searching everywhere from the paper to Ebay and back again. Yesterday I saw a blog that suggested Ebay for great used and new machines. I had already looked on Ebay a few weeks ago, but I looked again...I found it. Half price of what she paid, and a couple of hundred under my "Universal request". Used only a couple of times, with items still sealed in the factory plastic. This one is for me! Sometime soon I will have my new machine (no I am not giving up the old one although I suspect Matt and his ribbon shirts will take precedence).

When you can't find exactly what you want, for the price you want, or the money for it, manifest it. Leave the words "can't" and "won't" out of your vocabulary, and search it out. Remember the manifesting rules, and one of those is "give it time". Don't be afraid to retry things, or look back in the same place.

I saved about $700.00 and put some money in a pocket where it may have been greatly needed. Now all the "fun money" is gone, but I am sure I can manifest a way to bring in some more.

The answer the Universe gives is always YES, the question is only, "when"?

Integrity

Integrity-
noun
1.
adherence to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral character; honesty.
2.
the state of being whole, entire, or undiminished: to preserve the integrity of the empire.
3.
an unimpaired, or perfect condition: the integrity of a ship's hull. (Dictionary.com)
Integrity is that which puts you and what you do on a higher level. A level where people give you and your ideas respect and proper consideration. It is what makes what you do and say be accepted as valid, most, if not every time, by people who know you. It is what makes you always do the right thing, in any circumstance. It is what makes you a person that people trust and go to for information and assistance.
Integrity is not a hard thing to have, yet people often take the lazy or selfish route and  integrity flies out the window. My "job" is a job filled with people with little or no integrity, so I strive to do things in the right way every time. When you do that, you never have to worry about not being able to do what you need to do.
DO you have integrity? DO you always do the right thing for the right reasons?
I give honesty in my readings although many times it is not what a person wants to hear. They may become upset , but I will still and always tell them the truth. That has earned me more clients than it has lost, and the ones it loses would never get anywhere with my advice anyway.
I strive to do everything right to the letter with the pow wow drum, and there will be no exceptions. There will be no one who will try to harm or dissuade me along the way. Everything that was done to make that drum, obtain the songs and permission to sing them, was done in the correct way, with the utmost devotion to the "right way". I will also not allow people to shove the myth that women never were allowed to drum, and still aren't, down my throat. I will also make sure our drum does everything the right way and best way.
When we go on ghost investigations we never , ever do anything to upset, harm or fool the homeowner, people who see our evidence, or ourselves! We know our stuff, and so do the people we associate with. We never publish an EVP , picture, or video without knowing for sure what it is. We do not clean up or alter any evidence in any way. That means that a lot of it just gets tucked away for us to look at later and try to continue to figure out, or downright scrap. This means that we will never publish voices that are the person outside's, a picture of someone's breath, or a piece of Mother Nature. When we don't know, we publish and ask, and then if it turns out people say it is a bug, then it is a bug! We then publish that! We analyze, share, and if someone we trust says, "no that is a bug", it's a bug. Whether it is or not. It doesn't matter, there is lots more evidence out there to collect! We are never going to put something out there that may not, even for a moment , be paranormal. This doesn't help anything, and could actually harm. I remember when people were going on about "rods" that were really bugs. Today it is dust , rain, pollen and water droplets that are "orbs".
Having integrity may not mean always having fun doing something, but it does mean that life is much easier in the long run. You also won't fool some poor soul into believing and expounding on something that isn't the truth. I have no time for people who try to fool others or break promises to people. People who have no integrity will not get any assistance from me, at all.
Integrity is all that you really have. You are only as good as your results. Be a person of integrity and even though you will never have a bad day , because there are plenty of people out there without integrity, you will have many more good days than bad, and nothing but quality people around you!
Integrity and class shows! People do notice.
As my saying goes....Do the right things for the right reasons, and you will never go wrong!

FEAR always = WRONG actions

I tell my clients this every day." Love is NOT the strongest emotion, fear is". Love is close by right behind fear, but fear is the prime motivator. People love their partners, yet they check their cell phones to see if they are calling other potential partners.....fear overrides their love. I hear it all day long, every day.

When you operate on fear, you will see things from a different perspective, which is always an incorrect or skewed perspective. You won't see your boss having a meeting with a person in the department about moving her up, you will see it as they are talking about you, or you are about to lose your job.

When you operate out of fear you hear all kinds of suggestion and innuendo in people's voice and tone that are not there. People make a statement and you think they are being sarcastic, mean, or taunting.

Fear puts you at a great disadvantage. You will be SURE that your fear is justified. It usually is not. When you are the only person at the job, in your circle of friends, or in the room, that is getting upset, it isn't that the others are blind, it is that YOU are having the issue.

I have seen people do and say many things recently out of fear that were the wrong things to do and say. I have clients that make a career out of it. Sometimes people do things that they really don't think are the best things to do because they fear hurting someone's feelings. It can be that subtle to the seriousness of truly believing that someone is out to get you, and that you need to protect yourself, when in fact nothing of the kind is going on.

When you make decision, or rather, when you act out of fear (because there is really no TRUE thinking going on at that point), you ALWAYS make a mistake. From making yourself look like a fool, to ruining your life.

Fear makes you do things you know you shouldn't, but you feel that you "have to". It makes you over-react. It makes you look bad.

I trust my instincts, and granted they are on a little bit different level than most people, but when people over-react to nothing, it amazes me. I always think "Where did that come from?". I can usually figure it out, but it doesn't make it right. We all have our reasons for what we do, just sometimes they are not the right reasons. When we cause upset in the lives of others out of our panic and need to act out, we do ourselves and others a great disservice. It can have major effects from being ostracized from a group to fired from a job.

Before you do anything, from checking cell phones, to complaining about a co-worker, ask yourself "Why", then test your theory, your "why" so to speak. When others react by looking at you like you are crazy, then don't pursue it. You can investigate it, but don't react to it.

A life lived based on fear is not being lived at all.

Act, do not react....and my little mantra fits here as well. Do the right things FOR THE RIGHT REASONS, and you will never go wrong!

Ghosts can't be here.....

Someone said words to me last night that my ex mother in law said to me a few years back.  She had been" testing the psychic" , and asked if there were any spirits in her house. I told her yes. She smiled and said "But we built this house, no one died here." I told her there was certainly a spirit in the house, and that it was at the top of the stairs in a little niche. I couldn't get age, it was low to the ground, maybe a small child, but full of love. It would not speak to me, but it was harmless and loving.

She smiled at me, while my ex sister in law's jaw dropped. She said..."Mom, remember the fire?" Apparently they had a pretty serious kitchen fire that destroyed the kitchen and the bedroom above it. The family dog who always slept in the niche at the top of the stairs died there of smoke inhalation.

I learned about dog spirits that day, and my mother in law learned about ghosts.

Spirits do not have to be people who died in that spot. They could have lived there before you, if you built the house, they could have lived on the land before you. They could have been strolling through the world a couple of hundred years ago and met there end right there, in many ways. Even more prevalent, they could have followed you home. When you work in the metaphysical, spiritual, medical, religious, mental health, or funeral services, spirits can follow you home or even attach to you. Someone could have been doing some metaphysical work in the house, or experimented with things like Ouiji Boards (please do not ever use one).

Someone in the house can be sensitive, psychic or mediumistic and attract them in with their bright light. You may be situated on a ley line or other energy source that attracts spirits, like a vortex or portal. They occur naturally.

I remember reading on a case investigated by Hans Holtzer, where the spirit strolled into a home because the lady there looked just like her sister who passed many years before. She felt comfortable with this nice lady and stayed.

Sometimes people die in the vicinity. Maybe a bad accident where they didn't know they were dead, they walk down the street looking for help, and there you are, getting the paper off the front porch....they spend the next days trying to get your attention, and finally just give up and stay.

You may have something they loved in life. Maybe they were a pianist and you play wonderful piano every night. You have a house that looks like their childhood home, that no longer exists.

Maybe they came with that new antique piece you just added to your collection, or that painting they painted while they were alive. Maybe it is just Grandma checking  on you to see how you are doing, especially in times of stress and upset.

Ghosts don't just plop themselves in old rundown houses where they died, that is really the LEAST likely reason for them to be there. Many times we don't know the ghost. The ones who stick around where they died are usually suicides or sudden death victims. Suicides can resist moving out of this world as they fear they will be thrown in to hell. They don't, but some believe that, and won't cross.

We have free will in death, just like in life. We do not HAVE TO cross. We can float around between this plane and the next. We also can cross all the way, then come back and visit. They aren't limited to a certain plane or dimension.

Make sure that you have a good idea about where your ghost came from. You don't have to know its' exact origin or even name. You can say....I am going to call you George, and please keep the noise down at night, if you don't I will have to ask you to leave.

The Haunting at WNIN

We still have the video to review, but I have a few email today saying "Well???????" I guess I need to give a WNIN report, no pun intended. When we review the video, I will report on what we found , if anything.

The speakers all did a great job and there was much valid information passed. It is nice to see people taking notes and coming over and asking questions. I have been studying the paranormal for over 30 years, including obtaining a parapsychology certificate before I was even in college (I had the HS credits and grades to take it). I lived in two very haunted houses, been psychic all of my life, and have studied many aspects of the metaphysical. I like being able to share what I know.

There were many who came after the talks and asked great questions! It is wonderful to see such interest and desire to learn more. When people are a lot smarter about ghost hunting and other aspects of the paranormal, there will be even more belief and acceptance and the field will go even further. We have to learn and grow out side of a few popular TV shows.

When the presentations were through, we started the lock in. I was so glad to see so many friends and extended family there. We worked hard to push and make this event bigger than last year, and we accomplished that. But you don't want to know about that, you want to know what went bump in the night!

The first session involved a lot of settling in, questions and getting to know each other. We went over things for about 5 minutes with our group, and quietly listened for things. Unfortunately some others were settling in too....and it took a while to actually get quiet...but then things started to happen. One attendee kept feeling her chair get leaned on or gently pushed. It happened several times. Her legs were also freezing cold, maybe a spirit wanted to sit in that chair. I offered to switch, to give her a break and to see what would happen. Would the phenomenon follow her, leave, or stay with the chair. It stayed with the chair, to the point where me and the chair arrived up against a table leg.

There was also a loud bang in the hall. I went upstairs to make sure the second floor crew didn't do anything, they didn't. No one but us were on the first floor. A lady who works there said it sounded like the lady's room door. It did. It was, as far as I can tell. We will have to see if we have anything on camera.

We also had a person being poked, and saw a few black shadows. Several people heard someone say "Psssttt" in their ears, and two of them later heard a baby cry (I was not recording in the first session, so I don't know if any of it was captured, I will have to wait until Matt listens for EVPs on his recorder).

We saw shadows move, and a first for us. One dot on a laser grid was moving around. If anyone has any thoughts on that, please share it! Several people saw it happen.

I then turned my recorder on and left it on the whole rest of the night until we heard Buzz coming to disconnect his camera system. It was time to go home. The EVPs I had were all from the third floor, a floor that has always been a low evidence floor for me. Maybe they were hiding up there with us! Two ladies also heard what they thought were blinds being rattled.

I have two EVP of someone whistling. I also have a "would you please" , and two that I cannot make out. One was in the room where the spiral staircase is, and that is perpetually noisy. I hope that Matt got something downstairs in the first floor conference room, before I turned on my recorder.

It was a good night, and a LONG night. I was so tired by the end of the night, I was ready to drop. It is always fun though, no matter how tiring.

Thanks to WNIN and the ladies that helped us from the station. Thanks to all the people who attended and were wonderful, and participated without a problem. Thanks to all the SIPI crew, and thanks to Erik who loaned us his camera system without the cameras....and I thought us old folks had memory issues!  ;-)

(In Erik's defense he has been going days without sleep working on school projects).

Ashley, you were missed! May your new career be as awesome as it can!

Til next year!!

What is it really like???

A Facebook friend knows we, as part of the SIPI group, did an all night investigation at WNIN on Saturday. I can't say what evidence I obtained yet, because I haven't reviewed it yet, but I can say what it is like, or try to.

The shows you watch make you think it goes something like this:  they go in, stuff happens, they get evidence right away, they leave, and go who knows where.....a long drive home perhaps????? They have evidence right away and present it to the client.

Reality- You go in and set up. It isn't "hard", but sometimes it is challenging. Where to put the cameras, where is the power, the best angle, the most activity????  Make sure the IR cameras won't face each other. Can we use tape on this? No it is an antique...not even painter's tape. Who has a compass to set the MESA camera? Where can we put the table for the monitors out of the way? Wait, I just heard voices...darn we don't have our recorders running yet. Hurry up, it is getting dark. Computer won't work. Some outsiders are in places they shouldn't be, time to ride herd on them, then get back to work.

Then it is hours of silence in some cases. Either that or something already took your camera and faced it to the wall. And you wait and wait and wait....and get hungry , and have to find the bathroom (where stuff usually happens when you are alone and can't verify it). Yet when things happen, it is always exciting. It is always fun regardless.

There are usually personal experiences. There are discussions of what happened last time , and where to sit or what to say.

It is an all night vigil. Around 6-7 AM, as the sun starts to rise, you have to pack it all up. You look at the wires, cases, and cameras and sigh. You have to pack it all well, and carefully. You have to move furniture, fold up tables and make sure all is back where it started. Then you have to carry it back to the car (and sometimes, like on this most recent investigation, in the rain), all on zero sleep. You start to remember the injury that made that part sore, and the old age that made this part stiff. You find sore parts you never had before. Your eyes feel like someone dumped sand in them, and all you want to do is sleep.

You get home somehow....sometimes you get to rest first, sometimes not. But then it is hard to sleep. Your internal clock says....HEY WAKE UP! Your body says , "if don't sleep we are going to drop on the floor". You get a restless sleep, and have to get up soon, or you will sleep all day and be up all night...and the viscous circle begins!

You do a zombie day, shuffling around, and then that night. SLEEP! The next day you realize....I have to listen to 12 hours of audio, and watch 4 cameras for even longer, maybe 15 hours. Can I do it? Not in one day. It is impossible.

An all night investigation actually takes at least 3-4 days. When you have things to do and have to go to work, it takes longer on calendar time because the review starts and stops. You can't breeze through it, you will miss something. You have to note times and places in the evidence. RElisten, and look at it again. Is it a real phenomenon or a trick of the light? Save it and send it to the cloud. Release it to the group or client, and then you are done. Ah.

This isn't a job for the sleepy people, it is great for insomniacs! It is also great for people who like to pay attention to detail, and have never done stupid things in their life like fall off of a ski lift (oh yes I did). The little aches or huge pains, remind you well after being up all night.

This isn't as easy as it looks on TV, not if you are doing it right. We STRIVE to do it right. We need to make sure that the owner's property is safeguarded and left as we found it. We have a lot of responsibility while we are investigating. That doesn't even include a night when things are intense and people are getting hurt (scratching seems to be a favorite). Part of my "ghost hunting briefcase" is a first aid kit. All fun and games? Not for a minute.

So what is it really like? A lot of fun, but a pile of work on top of it. The fun lasts hours, the work.....days. Yet, I wouldn't stop for a minute, the fun far outweighs the work and sleepiness for me.

Just the Facts Mam.....Ryan's pants must be on fire

Last night I saw some "oops" and some, not quite right spins, but I also saw some outright nonsense. I am usually not into politics, but the people who are wrote an interesting little "facts" synopsis last night.

Facts from last night's debate, are from independent news sources: (These are all quotes from independent news, I wrote none of this myself).

Facts from last night's debate:

RYAN: "Look at just the $90 billion in stimulus the vice president was in charge of overseeing — this $90 billion in green pork to campaign contributors and special interest groups."
THE FACTS: Dismissing an entire package of energy stimulus grants and loans as "green pork" ignores the help that was given to people to make their homes more energy efficient, grants to public entities constructing high speed rail lines and tax credits to manufacturers to install equipment fostering cleaner energy.
To be sure, there were notable failed investments, such as $528 million to the politically connected and now-bankrupt solar power company Solyndra. But Ryan's claim made it sound like every penny went down the drain.
More broadly, economists are nearly universal in saying Obama's $800 billion-plus stimulus passed in early 2009 helped create both public-sector and private-sector jobs, even if they fell short of what sponsors had hoped. Douglas Elmendorf, director of the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, estimated the stimulus saved or created more than 3 million jobs.

RYAN: "We cannot allow Iran to gain a nuclear weapons capability. Now, let's take a look at where we've gone — come from. When Barack Obama was elected, they had enough fissile material — nuclear material — to make one bomb. Now they have enough for five. They're racing toward a nuclear weapon. They're four years closer toward a nuclear weapons capability."
THE FACTS: Ryan's claim is misleading. Iran isn't believed to have produced any of the highly enriched uranium needed to produce even one nuclear weapon, let alone five. That point isn't even disputed by Israel, whose Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu implored the world at the United Nations last month to create a "red line" at enrichment above 20 percent. Iran would have to enrich uranium at much higher levels to produce a weapon. There is intelligence suggesting that Iran has worked on weapon designs, but not that it has developed a delivery system for any potential nuclear warhead.

RYAN: "What troubles me more is how this administration has handled all of these issues. Look at what they're doing through Obamacare with respect to assaulting the religious liberties of this country. They're infringing upon our first freedom, the freedom of religion, by infringing on Catholic charities, Catholic churches, Catholic hospitals."
THE FACTS: The requirement under the health care law that most employers cover birth control free of charge to female employees does not apply to churches, houses of worship, or other institutions directly involved in propagating a religious faith. It does apply to church-affiliated institutions such as hospitals and charities that serve the general public.

RYAN: "We should have spoken out right away when the green revolution was up and starting, when the mullahs in Iran were attacking their people. We should not have called Bashar Assad a reformer when he was turning his Russian-provided guns on his own people.
THE FACTS: Neither President Barack Obama nor anyone else in his administration ever considered the Syrian leader a "reformer." The oft-repeated charge stems from an interview Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton gave in March 2011 noting that "many of the members of Congress of both parties who have gone to Syria in recent months have said they believe he's a reformer." She did not endorse that view. The comment was widely perceived to be a knock at senators such as John Kerry of Massachusetts who maintained cordial relations with Assad in the months leading up to his crackdown on protesters.

RYAN: "This one tax would actually tax about 53 percent of small-business income."
BIDEN: "Ninety-seven percent of the small businesses in America pay less — make less than $250,000."
THE FACTS: Both are correct, but incomplete, when sizing up the effect on small business of raising taxes for individuals making more than $200,000 and married couples making more than $250,000, as Obama wants to do. Republicans say that would hit small-business owners who report business income on their individual income tax; Democrats say the overwhelming majority of small businesses would not be affected.
According to a 2010 report by the Joint Committee on Taxation, the official scorekeeper for Congress, about 3 percent of people who report business income would face a tax increase under Obama's plan. That support's Biden's point.
The same report says those business owners account for about half of all business income. That supports Ryan.

RYAN: Notes that there have been four rounds of U.N. sanctions on Iran to deter its nuclear program, three during the Bush administration and one under Obama. "And the only reason we got it is because Russia watered it down and prevented the sanctions from hitting the central bank. Mitt Romney proposed these sanctions in 2007. In Congress, I've been fighting for these sanctions since 2009. The administration was blocking us every step of the way." He also noted the administration has granted 20 waivers to the sanctions.
THE FACTS: The argument that the administration was watering down or delaying sanctions is misleading. For sanctions to work, they need maximum global agreement and cooperation. Russia watered down U.N. sanctions not only under Obama, but also under Bush. And it's highly unlikely that a Romney administration, particularly led by a candidate who says Russia is the biggest geostrategic threat to the U.S., would be able to get Russia completely on board with what the U.S. wants to — either in Iran or Syria.
The more absolute U.S. sanctions that Ryan and others have pushed in Congress would have punished U.S. allies, including most countries in Europe as well as Japan and South Korea, along with good friends like India and Singapore — without the exemptions that were put in place.
The administration has indeed granted 20 waivers, to countries that made significant reductions in Iranian oil imports. And the sanctions are pinching; Iran has been convulsed over the past week with protests over the collapse of its currency, which most people say is a direct result of the sanctions that the U.S. and others have imposed.

Paul Ryan made me laugh last night too.....and I only watched for about 15 minutes.

Haunted cabin?

Two years ago when we were in the cabin at Lake George I thought I heard some noises during the night. We are in the woods, and there are many animals and birds all around us, so I chalked it up to mice, squirrels (do they run around at night?), or some other creature of Mother Nature's design.

I didn't think much of it, but I did mark it as unusual.

This year an two separate nights I heard noises and Matt did on another. We were in the same cabin in the woods. One night the noises even awakened me at some ungodly hour.

The first night that I heard noise, was right next to me.  I had a Gatorade bottle with water in it on my bedside table. There is a noise that the label and plastic make when you grab it. I heard that noise a couple of times, maybe I had a thirsty ghost. I thought that maybe the bottle was constricting, they will do that sometimes in the cold , but it wasn't THAT cold in the room. After that I thought I heard noise like someone moving around in the cabin.

A couple of nights later I heard a similar sound, it actually woke me up. It was like a sharp crackle, as if crisp paper or a plastic covering were being scrunched. I couldn't attribute it to anything , and went back to sleep. I also heard the ceiling tiles thump (there is no second story) , and some scratching. I chalked it up to mice...but never saw one or evidence of one.

Matt also heard noises like someone moving around the cabin. I think next time we go it will be recorders and camera system!!

If anyone has any ghost stories to share, send them by email. I will reprint them here. 'Tis the season for ghosties!

This Saturday is the Haunting at WNIN here in Evansville, we will be there and I will be giving a talk on EVPs. The overnight is sold out, but there are $20 convention tickets still available for the 7PM til midnight time period. There will be speakers, reiki sessions, reflexology, food, door prizes, and much more. Come on down!!!

Haunted places, they can sneak up on you!

Last week, my husband and I were , as they say in the movies, "back east". I am originally from NJ and lived in PA for quite some time. Every now and then I need to be with those "over the top", fun, loving people who are outrageous at times, but give every moment of life their all. Don't get me wrong, I do know a few of them where I am, but being surrounded by them is so invigorating to me. Add in beautiful mountains, changing leaves, long hikes, awesome food, family and peaceful time away....and it is pure magic. This is my down time, my "relax" time.

I introduced my husband to the mountains and food of the east coast a few years back. He must love it, he keeps asking to go back. After spending last year in Yellowstone and the Tetons, off we went.

We trekked off to Hawk Mountain to watch the migration, and then headed to the Adirondacks. I wanted to do a longish hike, so I picked one that was 10.2 miles long through what was one of the great camps in the 1800's. It is now owned by the state, and restoration work in under way. It is beautiful. We hiked in on a closed road that winds through trees and after a little more than a mile we came out at a farm that was part of the great camp (imagine your summer home having a farm to produce food and milk for your family , guests and servants). There were originally a dozen buildings in the farm area, and there are still several standing.

The road comes in at the top of what was an old animal barn built into the hillside. There must have been a fire there, as the metal pipes in the barn look like half cooked spaghetti, all bent and leaning. I wanted to walk down and see what was under the hillside. I walked past the barn and started down the side of the hill and WHAM, the feeling that lets me know "I am not alone". It was strange to encounter it in such a  space. Outdoors in the daytime, near a barn. But the feeling is quite clear (I actually have a different feeling for "bad things", etc.). I told Matt that someone was there, and it sped away as he came down the hill. I walked to the barn area, but nothing there. It was simply outside and didn't want to talk or be disturbed.

We continued on another nine miles to the great camp. It is beautiful. Large log buildings connected with covered boardwalks. It sits on a lake, and is still in very good shape. It was beautiful and state of the art. There were several refrigerators on a porch behind the kitchen. They were made with wood and lined with lead, the doors weighed a ton. These were there in the days when most homes didn't have such luxuries. There was also a huge water heater and stove. Getting these things to the camp must have been quite an adventure.

The buildings had a "feeling" about them, but no real strong presence. Just something energetic, as if several spirits were leaving the buildings as we entered. We met another live hiker and his wife. He told us that the camp was used quite a bit in the last century. The last family who owned the camp just up and left when their son disappeared. He was eight years old. There was an extensive manhunt and his body was never found. The family deserted the camp, and wanted nothing to do with it.

Imagine. It must have been horrible, but I would think (and I have never lost one of my children so I am just speculating here), that I would have a hard time leaving. I would expect that child to one day walk up to the door and I would want to be there. I don't think I could leave at all!

I don't know if foul play was suspected, but there are many ways to die and disappear deep in the woods. The "town" that now sits at the edge of the property is very small, with a handful of residents scattered about. I am sure that 40 some years ago, it was even less developed. It is hard to imagine a psychopath traveling many miles into the middle of nowhere to look for a victim, so I would imagine it was a known person or Mother Nature. There are animals, there are plenty of things like rocks, mountains and ridges to fall off of, and a couple of lakes to fall in. Even what we think of as peaceful animals (like moose), can trample and kill, especially an 8 year old boy. There are snakes that bite, and spiders that can kill. I don't know when he disappeared, but there is also bitter cold in the winter.

The body was never found. Does the boy wander around down by the old farm several miles away? Is that where he went that fateful day to meet his end? Was it a natural death, or was there evil done ?

With the spirit at the barn not wishing to communicate (and disappearing off into the old boarded up buildings), I couldn't pick at the answer. There are however, spirits among the farm and camp. They may just be old remnants of energy as they are not strong, but maybe they just haven't had enough people and items to suck energy off of. Maybe they are just old residents come back to check out the restoration. It would be a great place to spend the night and find out.

I didn't go on a "ghost vacation" , but I found one anyway.....since Halloween is coming, tomorrow I will write about the ghost in the cabin.

Happy Hunting!!

October blog

Good morning all. I just wanted to say we are back and we had a wonderful time. I am pressed for time this morning, as I was yesterday. Our group is doing a convention at a local haunted public TV station this weekend and I was doing an interview yesterday morning along with the President of the group.

http://tristatehomepage.com/fulltext/?nxd_id=551012

Then it was just more busy, busy , busy from there.

Today is a routine test at a local hospital, a meeting on the same convention, and more regular catching up to do. I promise to blog tomorrow on the trip.

Enjoy the day. Be positive, abundant and above all....do the right things for the right reasons!!

Love and Light
