Upcoming events

I am having a Psychic development II class on October 5. You will have had to take Psychic Development I with me in the past. There will also be local ghost walks coming up soon.

Check out TripleMoonGoddessGina.com for details on classes and ghost walks.

Our group (SIPI) will be again traveling to Villisca on September 21, maybe this time we will have video of the door opening on the stove! We then travel to Thomas House in November where our group will have the entire run of the house.

Also for locals, we will be at Boo At the Zoo all the nights this year, giving out treats and talking to folks about the paranormal!

I will be immersing myself in Mother Nature next week, so have a safe, happy and healthy Labor Day week.

See you all next month!!

Trust your gut

Every situation in life has a moment where you have a "feeling". Some people literally feel it in their stomachs. It is your gut talking to you. I am not talking about that burrito you probably should not hve eaten at 2 AM, but the feeling that something more ephemeral is wrong or off.

I walk around with my psychic door closed. When I was a kid it was opened all the time, but it drove me crazy...plus I don't need to know everything going on in all my friend's lives. However, even before "opening up" I still get what most of us recognize as our gut talking to us.

Last year we had a man come to join our paranormal investigating group. He was VERY enthusiastic, to the point of being annoying most times. He couldn't sit still and he had no patience. He was also one of those folks who thought everything was paranormal. I didn't really like him, but tried to help him. Thinking back on it, he would always ask...can I come over now (to borrow a USB, or show us a picture he took), knowing what I now know, that is a little scary. I would always tell him he had to wait...wait for my husband to come home. I feel comfortable with most men in my life, but to be honest this one made me a little uneasy. I couldn't exactly say why I really didn't like him (I didn't hate him either), but it was just something floating out there that made me reluctant to include him in investigations or private matters (like a bonfire we all generally gather at). I thought it was drugs making him so hyper. I was partially correct.

I told my husband this guy would weed himself out of the group , and he did. He had no restraint. You would tell him not to discuss a case, and the first thing you know he was bragging about going on an investigation on social media. Our founder talked to him more than once, but he just couldn't stop himself. He would not givve particulars, but didn't understand "do not say ANYTHING".

When the perfect storm happened he was gone. The perfect storm was he bragged about an investigation moments after being told not to say anything; he tried to take members from the group and start his own; and he was arrested for drunk driving and put under house arrest. Our founder cut him from the group after some bad attitude spilled out of him, and then allowed him back after apologies and promises (that were not kept),putting him on probation informing him that he could not go on investigations until his house arrest was over.

The group had some members going on a trip and he wanted to go. He asked our founder to lie for him and say he was doing work there (he owns a flooring business). We refused of course, and kept him out of the group. When his probation and house arrest were over, he wanted to do an investigation at a local historical site. With hindsight I realize he needed the group to get in. He said he had it all set up , but needed to know if we could do it within a few days. He was told we couldn't guarantee that. He called repeatedly and pestered the founder and his family to get us to do this investigation. We said we couldn't do it. The uproar that ensued caused him to again be cut from the group. This time for the final time. I don't think he ever did the investigation, as he always brags about these things, and nothing was ever said. I think he needed us to get in. Now I know why.

Recently our founder was watching the news when he saw this man on it. A sexual offender, and registered sexual predator. We knew he was an alcoholic, but did not know about the sexual offender status. Apparently there is also a drug history there. My gut didn't like him and now I know why. I think that since the investigation he wanted us to do was a city historical site, they checked him out before the investigation, and didn't allow him to do it because of his record. The other side of that may be he backed out knowing what would happen.

Always trust your gut, people will always show their true colors, this man did. We always had questionnaires, interviews, and probationary periods for new members, now we will have background checks. What a convenient and easy way to get into homes where their might be children. That is more scary than the ghosts!

If you live in Evansville or have a paranormal investigating group in the area, please beware of this man. His name is Darren Desmon Stogsdill. Meanwhile...trust your gut!

Choosing your life

We all choose our life. We all make choices along the way that can have long term or short term effects. When we are clear and honest with ourselves , we can look back and say "that was the best path for me and it worked", or "I will never do that again". Many times the effect is short term, but there are always ripples that go out in to the future to make changes. Some subtle, some important, and some become life changers.

Many times people make decisions based on emotion of the moment. It can be passion or anger, and even fear. Basing any decision on fear is always a bad decision. Basing one on anger isn't always, sometimes we need to temper that anger first, but most of the changes, and laws, that we have today, exist because someone became angry about an injustice. Anger motivates many to make changes, and many times they are good changes. The good changes come when we calm ourselves before reacting.

Always ACT, not REACT. Actions takes forethought and planning. Reacting just takes upset. It never leads to a good place.

Rememebr that you always have a choice as to how you respond to a situation. Too many people respond to situations that they do not like today with revenge, retaliation,  and harm. The best way to respond is to find the best option and then go with it. We need to always respond however, as when you allow injustice to happen and not respond to it, you are part of the problem and just as bad as the person doing wrong.

We need to keep in mind the "do unto others" rule and in drastic situations, find the best answer. After all, if a mugger takes your wallet, you then don't go and steal his....but you find the proper response.

We choose our day, we choose our life. Many who do not have "good ones" would disagree becasue they don't want the weight to fall on their shoulders. It is not what happens to you, but how you respond to it that makes or breaks your day. It is what you learn from it (do you keep allowing this to happen?), that keeps you protected. It is what you do to prevent it, or recreate it that changes your life.

I have people ask all the time why they keep attracting the wrong men. The answer is because they want to. The reasons vary. Some want to "save them", some have low self esteem and figure that is the best they can do. Some just want a warm body and that is what they get. Some are afraid to open up and love so they bring men into their lives they know will mistreat them, so then it is the man's fault that the relationship didn't work. Some are so desperate to hear the words "marriage" and "children" that they hear them from men who are conning them into a purely physical relationship, where three years later they are still wondering where the ring is.

I have had people tell me that a man told them on the first date he never met any one like them and he wants a wife. RED FLAG. RUN!!!! Real , honest, and emotionally/mentally healthy men don't say that. They don't go there. They get to know you. There are many out there who know just the words to say to reel in the desperate and weak. They know the words to say to keep you from moving on and finding the better partner.

Always take the time to really get to know the person you are considering spending most of your time with. Make sure that you have what is important on our list of "must haves" with that person, if the list isn't complete, move on. They aren't going to change.

Please do not waste your time with partners or friends who are not living up to their end of things. You will just be a few years down the road looking back, and wondering what went wrong.

In the meantime, CHOOSE your day, CHOOSE your life, CHOOSE you attitude...and make it a good one!

Paranormal investigating on a shoestring

Many items that paranormal investigators use today are not tools made for "ghost hunting". You don't need to spend a lot of money . I suggest that to get started, you spend as little as possible, because sometimes the most interested person gets into an authentic haunted site and says "this isn't for me".

You CANNOT be even a half way decent investigator if you are scared , at all. Things can startle you, that's OK, but when you enter a site afraid, before anything even happens, you don't belong there. Sometimes it takes the experience of the investigation to know how you are truly going to respond. It may go away if you are dertermined, but if you aren't out there on a regular basis it will take FOREVER to go away.

So if you want to go out and try , first try with an experienced group.Check them out before you go, just because they go "ghost hunting" doesn't mean they know what they are doing.

Do NOT , ever,  pay money to learn how to use equipment or "ghost hunt". Any group in your area will be happy to show you if you want to join their group or see if you are OK with it.

Many people already have a camera that they can turn off the flash or has a low flash option, if you have one of those bring it. Many have voice recorders, bring that too. Don't spend money on K2s or ghost boxes until you figure out if this will work for you.

Remember that there are very few "ghost hunter" only tools. The Frank's Box/spirit box is one and Galka's Mel-meter is another. Beyond that, the tools ghost hunters use were made for other things. K2 meters, recorders, cameras (even night vision), thermometers, tri-field meters, are all used for something else, and none of it is for finding ghosts. These tools then are not infallible and you need to know what you are doing.

You can buy a thermometer for $25, you can buy a regular compass for a few dollars (a compass will show disturbance in the EMF field by moving the needle). You can buy expensive motion detectors, and they are fine to have, but if you know something is moving about , then what? Do EVP and take pictures, but how many other ways can you know something is going on? Use a compass, or yourself as a meter, but again, if you are already afraid being there you will make a terrible ghost alarm.

GO "old school" sprinkle power of the floor (hard floors only!), where people hear footsteps (make sure no one goes in the area and make sure that you clean up afterwards). Use baby monitors and walkie talkies to try to communicate with the other side. They are MUCH cheaper in a thrift store than spending big bucks on a Shack Hack. Buy a deer cam on sale for less than $100 instead of a $500 camera system. You know have a still IR camera.

When you decide "this is for me" then save and buy bigger and better tools, but keep the old ones handy, you will use them!

I have an old recorder that picks up EVPs well, but it takes forever to fast forward through it. I leave it in places to record where we aren't directly investigating,  to see if anything happens when we are out of the area. I don't care if it gets broken, stolen, or forgotten (except for maybe missing an EVP).  I have an old digital camera and a low light camera. This way I have a back up and I have a camera I wouldn't worry about in the rain, or a place where it may get damaged.

Have fun, and don't spend big bucks becasue someone advertises themselves as a ghost hunting store...there is no such thing, there is mainly just tools that people use in everyday life that have been adapted to paranormal investigating. When you buy from a "ghost hunting shop" you pay extra for things you can find in any store in your town (except the 2 mentioned above).  Another thing to keep in mind before you go hog wild buying equipment is, how much can you use? I mean after all, if you are walking around with a camera and a recorder, then you don't have a hand for a meter, or a ghost box. Shop wise my friends (unless of course your name is Trump, then go for it!)

Happy hunting!

Paranormal investigating. Voice recorders

Yesterday we went over cameras, some which will be on a wish list for me, but probably never be in my pack. Recorders are a bit simpler and a LOT cheaper. The most you would pay for a recorder is about $225 for a multi directional recorder, but you can still get EVPs without going that far. The multi directional is what some investigators like TAPS use, but they also use digital recorders. I don't know of any comparison studies done to see if one or the other work better.

That said, it is simple to buy a voice recorder, there are a few on the market, and like the cameras, they all have the same quality and usually features. It is hard to find a "plain Jane" recorder today, just like trying to find a flip phone....technology has made many things obsolete.

You want a brand name like Olympus or Sony. There are some "off brands" out there, but they aren't any that are better than the top two. These little machines can be tricky to figure out , so take a moment to read the boring little book that comes with them. You will thank me later.

The cost is about $40-80. The file capacity is what makes the price difference, they usually all have the same basic features. Quality on the top ones is equal.

You want to make sure that you have a recorder that records in MP3 so you can listen in live and store files more clearly. You want as much space as possible,  because we all know that we don't always have the time to listen to an investigation before the next one starts. You want one that has different settings for different situations (classroom, conference, etc).

Some require a connector to plug into your computer, to download your files. Some have one built in. Either is good. Just make sure to save them and then put them on a thumb drive or cloud.

Before you EVER go on an investigation, set up your recorder. These little boxes are made for students and professionals to take notes. They aren't paranormal equipment, but we use them in paranormal investigating. There is a setting on the better recorders that filters out low and high level sounds. This is used so the AC unit won't cover the person speaking, or the conversation in teh other room isn't interrupting. You want that OFF. You don't want anything filtered out. EVPs are generally in the higher and sometimes lower range, out of our normal hearing range, sort of like a dog whistle. When you are filtering those out, you will never get an EVP. You need to set this up beforehand because resetting the recorder erases all past files, so unless they are already reviewed or backed up, you will lose them.

An external microphone is OK too. Many people have the habit of rubbing their hands or clothing over the recorder making a rough scraping sound. It can mask an EVP. If you are good at holding your recorder or setting it down somewhere, you don't need an external microphone. It does NOT make for better recordings, just makes for better users......

Keep an investigation in one folder. Each folder will have numerous sections for different sessions. This will help keep you organized. Set your recorder on "conference". This sets the recorder up to "hear" outside the immediate range and collect various voices talking over one another. It acts like a multi directional mike and it "listens" harder.

A little sidetrack. When you start a recording, name the place, date, and people in the room. This way if you hear a voice that sounds like your co-investigator, you won't have try to remember if he was with you when you made the recording.

Some have sound recognition features that turn the recorder on when they hear something. Do not use this while doing paranormal investigating. The noise or one word may be too abrupt to make it on to the recorder. Set your volume up as loud as it will go, and have fun.

Some other info about ghostly noises....The Frank's Box is no longer made, but "Shack Hacks", or "ghost boxes" are. These are items that people take and modify. Some will be real good at it and others will not. The radios have to be set at a very specific scan rate in order to work. The Ovilus will apparently also not be made anymore. Your only other option for direct voice will be the PX. The prices on these are all over the place from about $80 to $200.I am sure teh price will go up when there are no Ovilus left to be had. Make sure you have a warranty!!! You don't want some dumb kid taking you for $40 because he crossed some wires on a transistor radio from Radio Shack to screw with you. It happens. Some uninformed people think it is OK to just make the radio scan, and it will pick up voices, not so, the rate has to be exact.

Try NOT to buy from "ghost hunter" sites. They have inflated prices for things that work like a charm that you can buy easily from many sources. There are certain items, like a K2 made for paranormal investigating where you may have to use a "ghost hunter" shop to get a new one.

You can get a recorder on line, at Walmart, Radio Shack, Best Buy or Amazon. They are easy to find and are the best investigation tool for the buck. It is pretty easy to capture EVPs. You won't need any special practice or knowledge as you will with some cameras, this is the easy part of investigating.

There are a few blogs I have written that you can search on to get information on how to do an EVP session. That is a whole other blog. Just type EVP into the search box.

When you have a little cash and want quick results, the best way is a good voice recorder!

 Have fun investigating!

So what is the best paranormal investigation cameras?

Yesterday a club member was looking for a camera, and then another one. Last night two more (sorry I didn't get to them until this morning) email popped in my box about what is the best camera to capture paranormal activity.

Good question. Simple answer, the best SLR or low light point and shoot you can afford.

There really isn't a "paranormal" camera. None of the major camera makers make a "paranormal investigators" camera. Then what to do? The best camera for paranormal investigating is any SLR, all the big names have great cameras, Sony,Nikon, Cannon....they all can be purchased with the same options. What it will probably come down to, is options and price. You want the highest megapixels that you can afford . The good cameras made in 2013 don't go lower than 18 megapixels and some (very expensive), cameras go as high as 80 (professionals use these cameras, but mostly scientists use them). The Nokia Lumina cell phone is the top of the cell phones, and has 41 megapixels! However, a cell phone does not have a good lens, and flexibility of use isn't there.

Paranormal investigating means you will be doing several things. You will need sharp resolution, as taking pictures in the dark will put you at a disadvantage of seeing things sharply and clearly to begin with. You will be taking pictures in low light, and will have the lens left open for longer periods of time.

You want a high megapixel camera, with low light (or SLR), image stabilization, and controlled flash (preferably with options as to flash intensity) digital camera. Zoom, large and clear view screens, and night time settings make it even better. Other options include GPS (for marking exactly where the picture was taken) and Wi-Fi so you can send it to your friends right after you capture that ghost! The only problem with these great options is they drain the battery quickly.

Buy the best quality you can. My camera (and binoculars) are made of Zeiss glass. It is the highest quality glass, and the clearest glass out there. When buying any product with a lens of any sort, look for the Zeiss name. Yes it will cost more, but it will be worth it.

Another good thing to have is a tripod...a must if it is an SLR. The SLR's won't "create" orbs and are the best for taking pictures in darkness. I learned how to use one years ago, and if I learned, anyone can. You know longer have to worry about film speed and whether to use the flash. Technology has come a long way.

Remember that bigger lenses soak up light on the way to the lens. You can't get great light at long distance (zoom) so you will need to compromise there. Most paranormal investigation photos are closer by however, and this won't be an issue.

The best rated low light cameras (latest models) are listed here. Let me start with the best medium format. The one who tops all in all categories, and yes, is EXPENSIVE. You do pay for having all that fancy stuff working together. It is the Pentax645D. It costs $6,996, but has 41 megapixels. A little out of most people's price range.

Full frame cameras are a little better pricewise.  The Nikon D800E is the best image quality camera out there right now. It is Around $2800 and can be more expensive if you add expensive lenses. The Nikons hold all the top spots here on current models, but if you don't want a Nikon, the next best is a Cannon 1DX, at about $3500.00. Nikon holds the throne this year, next year may be different, so always check professional reviews!

The best point and shoot is the Olympus OMDEM5. It is pricey at about $950, but the best in the category. There is also a Pansonic DMCG5 at about $500 and a Canon Powershot G1X at $600.

These are all the best "low noise" cameras.

Now, since we are not all rolling in dough , we have to be more realistic. So who makes the best affordable cameras for those of us who don't have Sy-Fy or Travel Channel finding our cameras?

I can tell you the best for video is Sony Cybershot DX100. My son found that one and it was so "upscale" I had to buy it from a camera store. However, if you don't have Mom funding your birthday presents , here are some options:

Nikon Coolpix (there are several models). The top for MP, is a 20.1 megapixel camera for about $150.00. It doesn't have the best low light resolution though. Those cameras cost about $350-450.
The winners there are the Coolpix S9200, and several of the Sony Cybershots. ($200-600).

When shopping for these cameras, you will see a little candle icon and there will be information on what depth of shadow the camera can shoot in. Many are close, the price difference is mostly in the  other features such as smile recognition, panoramic, etc. The bigger the zoom, the lower the night "vision" for reasons we discussed earlier, so it all depends on what you want to do.

My camera has features I have yet to use, like the smile recognition and panoramic photo viewing. It also has options for creating effects, making the screen and photo lighter or darker before taking the picture, low light settings, a Zeiss lens, zoom, controlled and varied flash, low light options, ability to crop on the camera, and the usual like Wi-Fi and GPS. It has not disappointed me. It is the Coolpix S9200. I paid $370, but have seen them now for $350 (the newer technology comes along quickly in the camera world).

The best for dark conditions however remains an SLR , not a pint and shoot, where you can leave the lens open for long periods of time. Don't buy any camera below 16 megapixels (it is hard to find a current model below that anyway). Some cameras have IR blocking filters on them, this doesn't allow the camera to "see" IR light, so if you are adding IR lights to make the photos even more clear, make sure the camera doesn't have an IR blocker. People can buy an "IR" seeing camera right out of the box, the best is a Fuji S2.

Buying a camera is complicated, and what works best for you, doesn't always work best for others. You may need a camera just for paranormal investigations. My husband owns a camera for investigations and one for bird watching. The bird watching camera needs "distance" or zoom and a longer lens, this is anathema to taking pictures in the dark. He has two completely different cameras with 2 different set ups and neither would do well in the other's use. They are both great cameras, but if the "bird watching camera" went investigating it would be terrible....as far as taking bird pictures though, it is excellent.

Most camera buffs have several cameras, certain cameras are meant for certain uses, and when you have a hobby, you most likely have different types of the same equipment made to do what you need it to do! I have two sewing machines, so it isn't just photography.

The best thing to do before buying,  is to visit a camera store or chain that has specialists. Best Buy has been VERY helpful to us and has given us great advice, up to and including, telling me I had to go to a camera store to get my son's camera (which the salesman then decided he also needed). You can also go online and read reviews and comparisons from photo magazines and websites.Do NOT go to a specific manufacturer's website, after all they will all tell you they have the best.  Do your research, it is a lot on money to spend to not get great pictures and you just may miss an awesome opportunity! You can't make that spirit appear again!

That said, spend as much as you can, and don't be afraid to sell or trade up as your go along. Buy a big name camera and you will be fine, they all have the same technology these days, but buy the best you can afford, then learn how to really use the camera. Test it in various settings BEFORE the paranormal investigation, learn it well so you can use it in the dark!

Remember also that just because a place is a "ghost hunting" store, doesn't mean they have anything different than Best Buy or a camera shop. Make sure you are getting what they are advertising. No major manufacturer makes a "paranormal investigating" camera. (Maybe one will and make a fortune). When the camera or any equipment you buy , is modified, remember that the manufacturer will NOT warranty the item, so make sure you can afford to lose the price of the equipment. Lots of "ghost equipment sites" would love your money, but remember they are usually selling items that you can buy anywhere and everywhere.

Happy shooting!

(we'll get to other equipment some day soon!)

Update on Villisca...still reviewing

A few friends have asked if we have any video evidence from Villisca. Matt and I are close to the end of reviewing the video, but there are a few interesting things. It is hard to top a camera spinning around while no one is in the house. That was caught on our first investigation there. Here is a link to the video:

 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvWKYp13Sls

I think the only way we could top that would be if we saw a man with an axe over his shoulder walking toward the camera first.

I am still trying to figure out a wind chime. It is one of those tiny ones you can buy at Walgreen's that hangs on a closet door in the front bedroom. That door is said to open and close by itself, even in daylight (we all know the ghosties are out all the time, so no surprises for many of us there). I have only 2-3 hours to go on the video, and the door has yet to move...or has it? Sometimes those wind chimes move. It is hard to tell as they are tiny, but they have a metallic piece on them that twists and reflects the IR light. Is the door moving them? Is air flow moving them? Is a spirit moving them? Is energy moving them?

The disturbing part is that since the house has been tonally empty (we are all now snoring or sleeping somewhere), the chimes aren't moving. Now this is the hard part of being an investigator that really is authentic. A skeptic would say we were somehow influencing that wind chime. It may be airflow or making the house move somehow with the movements of several people. Maybe it moves when we open the door downstairs. We will be returning next month, so we can do some experiments to see if the back door or movement downstairs effects the chime.

Most people who are into "ghost hunting" would say "It is paranormal!!! No one is near there!! That door is noted to open and close!!!"

I am somewhere in the middle (and where a good investigator needs to be). I have seen the chime moving when no one was on the second floor and the back door was firmly closed and locked. Yes, there were six of us in the house moving around. Is that enough to make the chime move? Assuming the chime movement is paranormal, does the catalyst for that movement only effect the chime when people are in the house? Does it want to be noticed? The house is over 125 years old, it has settled long ago, the house isn't moving, well not by any "normal" means. We have had the house shake like a truck hit it with no evidence of anything influencing it.

I have seen the chime move when my husband was setting up the camera. He walked out of the room , causing a "breeze" and the chime moved. However, that being said, it doesn't move as drastically on its' own. It is moving when no one is in the room and moves for quite some time. There is no air conditioning nor heat on in the house (there is no furnace or central air), so it isn't an HVAC issue.

I have spent hours just watching that darn wind chime. I have not been able to correlate its' movement with anything in particular, so I guess the weight of the argument goes to paranormal, yet I am not entirely comefortable with that yet. For the evidence I have so far, I may have to call it "unknown". Now, if it moves in the next few hours before we reenter the house, it will have to be labeled "paranormal".

I can always hope that the last couple of hours include a door opening and closing. Then I can forget about the wind chime attached to it. The closet is pretty spacious in 1800's terms, and comfy for a little child spirit. It could be in there. Maybe hiding from the murderer who seems to like hanging out in the attic, just around the corner. It is a room where four children were brutally killed with the blunt end of an axe. It almost HAS to be haunted!  I have seen evidence of the door opening and closing, many have caught it on video, i do believe there is something going on that is paranormal with the door....which makes the wind chime puzzle even harder.

I know everyone is hoping I hurry up and get through it...me too. It is hard to stare carefully at a video of an IR camera for 10-12 hours, in a room where for most of the time, there is no living humans. Stare a "still life" painting on your wall for 5 minutes and you will "get the picture"...pun in tended. You start to see things that really aren't there, and if you get sleepy, you may miss a shadow going down the hall. This is the hardest part of investigating for me.

That said, I PROMISE it will be finished this week...because I SOOOO want to get to the Mc Pike video. We saw several things on the monitor that we can't explain while at the mansion, and one that needs some careful review. So I know that won't be a fruitless endeavor. Meanwhile, I really need to get that done and on to a home investigation, because next month we revisit Villisca with a team of our best investigators! These will all be folks with many investigations under their belts, and they are all fearless. They are smart and don't see "ghosts" around every corner. We will be packed to the gills with equipment, and know some things to check out (like the back door and the chimes). Hopefully some energy will be kind enough to swing open that closet door for us!

Now on the "positive" side of things, two investigators caught shadows on still cameras last trip. One I may have to call a black mist, and it is quite possible it is a shadow person, but it is SOMETHING paranormal for sure! I have EVPs, and we had experiences, so we did have things happen, although not as much or as drastic as the first time.

So that is my update, I know it isn't much, but it is the way it is. Paranormal investigating must be much like police work....great excitement followed by hours of evidence review.

Demanding clients

I thought that maybe I was just having a bad run of things as far as clients, by that I mean demanding. However in the past few days I had three other readers ask me if "something was in the air", well, not that I know of. Astrologers may tell us differently, but I wish they would clue the rest of us in.

I have had a few people demand readings over the past couple of weeks, and even  try to sneak in after I tell them "no" or "wait". Reading for people is something that is harder to do than you might think. It is like being a therapist (I always knew I would use that psych degree). You hear people's problems all day long. Some scream, some cry, some are just "ugly". I listen to the brokenhearted, and I listen to people that I really just want to knock some sense into. I listen to people who should not be out walking around among others. I read for people who should never have had children. People do the most hateful things to others and and then wonder why they have no friends and no one in the family will talk to them.

Recently I have had a string of people who demand readings. Like most people, and businesses, I work on a schedule. I have been doing this so long I can easily read just about anywhere (not in a noisy crowd), comfortably. I can tune out the cats knocking things around, and the doorbell ringing. I can tune out most things, however I do like to have a low noise situation so that we can clearly communicate. I also don't want anyone else hearing the querant's business, although that rarely becomes an issue.

I have hours I set for myself , and I read when I am in the right frame of mind. When there is drama around me, I sign off. The last few weeks have been busy, emotional, hectic, and even stressful. I was not taking on any new clients at all. That is of course the time when new ones appeared. They don't understand that unlike the hotline I read on (when I am on, I am on), my personal business is done by appointment, and it may be a few days or a few weeks before you get a reading. If you want to know when your boyfriend is going to call, then you don't want my readings that I do in person or from my webpage. These are serious, how can I improve my life type readings. They are for problem solving for people who want help. They aren't "pop readings" , they are the old fashioned, serious type of reading.

The other readers told me they have the same thing going on. We didn't name names, but I think that in at least two cases, we were talking about the same "clients". They are demanding readings and not understanding that this is not the way to get a reading. We know when we are available and in the best energy and place in order to give help. We have to run it like a business or we will run ourselves into the ground. How much strength do you think it takes to listen to people for 12 hours a day, who are their own worst enemy in many circumstances? Who are crying, screaming, drunk, hateful? What do you think that feels like all day long? Only the strong readers survive.

One fellow reader called her problem caller a "stalker". This person insisted on a reading even though the reader told her she doesn't do those types of readings (medical intuitive). I don't either. I can give some advice sometimes on that subject from what I get, but the strongest thing I always tell them is "see a doctor". No matter what is wrong, you will have to go there anyway! Sometimes we can help you find the best doctor or best type, but we are not medically trained, and the clues and messages we get usually mean nothing to us without that training.

I had one, ask, then beg, then insult, then try to sneak in, insult me, then act nice, then ask for forgiveness. You wonder why this person needs help? Passive aggressive people are my least favorite. I won't read for them. This is just one of several over the past week.

I don't know why readers are being stalked, or what is "in the air", but readings are designed to help you figure out YOUR best course of action. They are there to help guide you and see choices you may not have seen or point you in the right direction, not solve your problems for you.

I always want to scream when a person asks about a relationship, and you describe the significant other to tell them why things are like they are, and the querant says "I know all that", why isn't this relationship working. It isn't working because "you know all that" and persist in trying to get a one legged man to walk a tightrope. It just isn't going to happen. I don't read to fleece people's pockets. I read to help them, so anyone who shows up with a payment doesn't automatically get a reading.

The other relationship "solution" is people then play "hard to get". That will work with some men, but some just won't be bothered. Some don't like game players and will see through you in a New York minute. Some are insecure and slink away thinking you aren't interested.

Never play games in a relationship. Never. It will always backfire.

Meanwhile, when a reader says she isn't available, or isn't taking new clients, don't stalk her, yell at her, try to make her feel guilty, send her reams of email insisting on a reading, or sneak in another way....say "thank you" and move on. That makes the reader realize you will be a problem child, and the last thing we need with people already filling our books with some terrible situations, is a problem child.

Respect readers, and respect their business practices. When it doesn't work for you, move on, and find one who is willing to work with you or has the time to do so. We live our lives as punching bags as it is on most days, and when we say "enough", we mean "enough".

Do the right things for the right reasons.

Getting away

No matter what your budget, take time to "get away". "Away" can be a quiet area, a park, a friend's backyard. It doesn't need to be a big money deal, just a change of scenery. I know that when I "get away", the things that bother me, or keep me too busy, fade away. They don't matter anymore. Yes, you have to come back to them, but sometimes we just need a break.

Last weekend I was in Alton Il with a bunch of friends. We did a paranormal investigation, toured the town , and camped out. The trip included food, laughs, and lots of great companionship. It included giving a hand to someone with her haunted home (although not is a way we traditionally do so), and breaking in a new member or two.

There are other ways to "get away" Find a really good book. The thicker the better, and all of a sudden you are in that place instead of where you physically are. You can meditate, including moving meditation like tai chi. You can go for long walks. You can write a story.

When time and finances allow, really get away. Go someplace with a different way, climate, or scenery. We never vacation in our home state, we travel out west or to the east coast. We love both areas and hope to one day move to the warmer and a bit drier weather of the high desert.  I loved the New Mexico weather when I lived there. Someday we will return.

We all need a break, but we all also need to see things a bit differently and when we go to other places we see that not everyone lives, thinks and feels as those in our community do. We see that life is a bit different, and if you are lucky enough to travel to another country, you will see that it can be very different.

Getting away clears the soul, so take a trip, even if it is just to the end of the subway line!
