Getting away

No matter what your budget, take time to "get away". "Away" can be a quiet area, a park, a friend's backyard. It doesn't need to be a big money deal, just a change of scenery. I know that when I "get away", the things that bother me, or keep me too busy, fade away. They don't matter anymore. Yes, you have to come back to them, but sometimes we just need a break.

Last weekend I was in Alton Il with a bunch of friends. We did a paranormal investigation, toured the town , and camped out. The trip included food, laughs, and lots of great companionship. It included giving a hand to someone with her haunted home (although not is a way we traditionally do so), and breaking in a new member or two.

There are other ways to "get away" Find a really good book. The thicker the better, and all of a sudden you are in that place instead of where you physically are. You can meditate, including moving meditation like tai chi. You can go for long walks. You can write a story.

When time and finances allow, really get away. Go someplace with a different way, climate, or scenery. We never vacation in our home state, we travel out west or to the east coast. We love both areas and hope to one day move to the warmer and a bit drier weather of the high desert.  I loved the New Mexico weather when I lived there. Someday we will return.

We all need a break, but we all also need to see things a bit differently and when we go to other places we see that not everyone lives, thinks and feels as those in our community do. We see that life is a bit different, and if you are lucky enough to travel to another country, you will see that it can be very different.

Getting away clears the soul, so take a trip, even if it is just to the end of the subway line!
