How often do you get stuff?

A reader wrote to me on the paranormal and asked...How often do you get stuff? It depends on what "stuff" you are talking about. There are ALWAYS spirits around us. You have a guide who is always with you, and there are people who have relatives check in from time to time, so there is always someone around. Guides and other positive beings assigned to us try to motivate, persuade, and guide. They don't tell us what to do and are subtle. Some people never notice them. Can you capture messages from them? No, they communicate in a different way.

That being said, spirits are free to roam. They have free will as we do and the only ones who are restricted are suicides. You may have a spirit in your home that never lived there, doesn't know you, and really doesn't care that you are there. This was a huge realization back in the 70's when Hans Holzer discovered that a spirit haunted a home because the lady who lived there reminded her of her sister. Prior to that people believed that for a spirit to be in a home, they had to die there. Today we know better.

Spirits attach to antiques, places, people, things they love, places they visited. There aren't restrictions. That all being said, spirits are everywhere, how often do we catch them peeking through in to our living dimension? A lot.

I have a huge success with EVPs, part of that is that being psychic (or if someone is a medium), they have a brighter light emanating from them that the spirits can more easily see. I get EVPs on most trips out. Remember, they don't have to talk to you, so they can be there and you won't know it. That is why it is important to remember that not getting an EVP does not mean the place doesn't have spirit activity, and getting an EVP doesn't make it haunted.

Pictures are harder to come by. Most spirits only manifest for a moment, capturing that moment is VERY difficult, not only with timing, but with having the right technology. Regular flash cameras rarely do the trick. You "wash out" the spirit or BSP with the flash. There are IR, low light cameras, and digital SLRs that allow the photographer to keep the lens open. These allow the camera to better capture the image. Images however are rare and usually fuzzy. You are taking pictures that are literally inter-dimensional. Clear images are fakes, and it is getting easier to spot them and prove them to be what they are. The other issue is that today's cameras capture awesome pictures we haven't seen before, and people jump right to thinking they are paranormal. Raindrops bouncing off the earth with a flash camera look like little fireballs rising up from the earth. They are just raindrops. For the longest time people thought rods were paranormal. they aren't they are what the camera lens does to certain bugs. We learn and we drop the old beliefs and move forward, learning even more with the wonderful new technology.

These are the two real types of proof you can have and that is it. K2's and other meters offer no real "proof". They can be many things other than a ghost, that is the problem. Even the meters when the batteries are dying cause high numbers to result. A meter is a good way to detect CHANGE, not a spirit. That change MAY be a spirit....or a cell phone getting a message, power line, conduit, police (or other) tower nearby, etc etc etc. Know what your meters limits are, what is around you, and turn off your cell phone & walkie talkies until you need them. Flashlights are for seeing in the dark, nothing else. They aren't proof of anything except an electrical arc, a natural occurrence, and if it isn't happening, your flashlight is dead.

So the answer to the question is, "most, if not all, of the time", however, it is usually an EVP or disembodied voice. Even those take careful investigation. Many times people in your group are in the next room discussion something in low voices. You can't hear it, but that awesome recorder can, and you think you have an EVP. So many investigators say they heard their name, they sure did, by their friends talking in the next room. I have heard my name, in a paranormal way, twice. Once in my room as a 10 year old child as it was repeated in a sing song voice, and once at Villisca. EVPs need (as any ghost hunting equipment) an environment that is controlled. Make sure that there is no other group anywhere nearby. Make sure no one in the room whispers, makes funny sounds,or kids around in funny voices. When something happens like you bump in to a chiar in the dark, mark it, say " Joe, chair".

You have to make sure you are only using tools that cannot have something else effect them to call it evidence. Voice recorders where there isn't noise contamination, laser grids in closed off controlled space; pictures in the right environment (as in NOT when it is raining or misty); meters when there is no interference around to activate them.

Please do not use your home as a ghost hunting ground, no matter how haunted it is. When you say "hey I want to hear you", you will escalate the activity to a point where you won't get a moment's peace. It can get nasty when you try to ignore it by sleeping, eating, or getting work done. They also call in their friends, and that can get WAY out of hand. When there is something going on and you want it investigated, call in a reputable group. Ask what investigations they have done and for references before allowing them into your home. Many have watch a few seasons of Ghost Hunters and think they are "professionals". There is nothing professional about them.

Ghost hunting is interesting, but as the old joke says...please do not try this at home!
