Pastoral counseling

When I obtained my ministerial degree in pastoral counseling, I did it for several reasons, but one of the important reasons as to why I chose the organization that I did, is that it was about learning about religion in general and how to help people through meditation, and other spiritual endeavors.

It wasn't about being anything in particular, like Catholic or Protestant. It wasn't about anyone's dogma, or anyone's traditions. Although we learned about these in order to communicate with others more easily, we weren't instructed to tell people how to be a Good Jew, or a good Catholic. That dogma is usually what makes an issue in he first place.

I have a hard time with organized religion, it seems more a political, social or money making entity, rather than being in the business of spiritually helping people. How many people sit and listen to the preacher and then learn from it, change their ways, and are better people on Monday? Not many, some may make it until Tuesday.

Your "goodness" or "badness" is in you, it is who you are, and who you will be. Going to a building and listening to someone talk isn't going to save a soul. It may wake a few people up, but I think the ones who need the wake up calls don't get them from a church , but life, Karma, the Universe.

I don't remember anywhere in any good book, of  a godlike entity saying he would hide out in a building and people would have to come and see him on Sunday (or Friday or Saturday depending on your religion). He (or she) said they were everywhere. I see more of a spiritual hand in a sunset, a hawk soaring through the air, the red desert of the southwest, the color of the leaves turning in fall, than any religious structure.

This weekend, get out and see the world, see the wonder in it, see the amazing things that are rainbows, baby animals, rain running down in rivulets, clouds and sun, and wind moving the trees. It is much more entertaining, enlightening, and awe inspiring...and it is free, you don't have to get up early, and spend gas money....and it will be OK if you fall asleep and snore.

Enjoy !
