Be careful what you ask for...even rain.

There is a movement on Facebook to bring about rain. It is something or other about everyone doing a rain dance. I had someone say to me that she bet I was going to be out there dancing away.

Nope.

I joke sometimes that I am going to go out and do a rain dance....I don't. She made the comment in a jovial way, but we are all hoping for a little rain. It won't save our lawns at this point, but it would be nice not to have to conserve water.

I was taught long ago, and again more recently,  the seriousness of such actions. I have seen people "drum for rain" (or end of rain, snow , wind...), or what ever method they thought they would use to second guess Creator. You NEVER pray , dance, drum "for rain"....why? First of all, Creator knows better than you, what you need. Droughts are a necessary and important part of Mother Nature doing her job. It is insect control, animal overpopulation control, and weeds out less healthy animals and plants.

Secondly, I know that we are never to tell Creator, God, or whatever belief system is your own, how to do their job. You can say something along the lines of "You haven't sent us rain in a while Creator and we know that you have good reason for this, but please send us what we need , if we have done anything to offend you, we apologize".

Most Native American Nations believe that if it doesn't rain (or any other needed thing is not given), it is becasue we have somehow offended Creator.  The elaborate ceremonies, the songs, the dances are not to "make it rain" but to ask for forgiveness, or crop abundance. The NA community doesn't tell Creator how to bring about relief.

Thirdly, always be careful what you ask for. The Universe is very literal, and does grant wishes, manifest with you, and answer prayer. Yesterday we got a few drops of rain. In the midst of that, some folks got hammered, but it wasn't just rain. It was trees down, power out (in 100 degree weather), accidents, and property damage. Is it worth watering your already dead grass with rain to have an elderly person without air conditioning? A person with a tree on their home? A visit to the emergency room for a car accident? Food rotting in the warm fridge? No, of course it isn't. Is it worth having all that on your conscience? Not for me it isn't.

When life isn't going all that well, look and see why. When you are in a drought condition, realize that this is a normal part of nature and is necessary. Pray that Creator or Gad can set things back to balance quickly, but don't tell him/her how to do their job. You are as clueless as a newborn about these things compared to the Highest Power.

Real Medicine Men will always tell you that you need to know how to stop things you started, or send spirits back before you have any business calling them in. You learn the spirit sending songs and learn them perfectly, before you learn the spirit calling songs, dances, or ceremony...Real Medicine men (please don't call them Shaman in the US lower 48), only do things as directed by Creator, not because they think it is a good idea, or because they  think that is what the group wants. That is why it is impossible to take a class and be a "shaman". Shamanism chooses YOU, you do not choose it, and you need an innate ability and talent to communicate with those we cannot see to even "apply for the job".

And for all of you that thought all us "Indians" run outside with our hand drums, and meditate or do a rain dance...you have GOT to be kidding.  Be careful what you ask for, and if you always ask Creator to do what is best, it always will turn out for the best.

Don't doubt Creator's process. Doubt your faith that Creator is doing the right thing for right now.

(For some really wonderful information about ceremony for abundant crops, and help from Creator in life, read the book Book of The Hopi , by Frank Waters). Meanwhile, leave the rain schedule up to Creator, you may not like his method, but he knows what he is doing much better than you do.
