Yesterday the Supreme Court gave the Westboro Baptist Church the right to protest at funerals saying they have freedom of speech. Well, of course they do, however, the lack there seems to be more in the area of manners, consideration and common sense. Their words and actions show that the Bible is obviously a book they never read, completely misunderstand, or better yet, that their leader is a hateful, cruel, sadistic nut, and that is on one of his better days. See , I too have freedom of speech, and although there are more choice words I could use to describe these individuals, I won't.
Mark Twain said it well:
It is by the goodness of God that in our country we have those three unspeakably precious things: freedom of speech, freedom of conscience, and the prudence never to practice either of them.
What Twain was getting at, is that even though you have the freedom of speech, it would be wise not to use it too often, or in an inappropriate way. Westboro knows their rights, but not their responsibilities, as a "church" they should be helping any and all individuals through the process of death and grieving. They fail at one of the most basic responsibilities of a church. But then calling them a church is giving them WAYY too much credit.
I would hope that more of you out there have more sense than these homophobes at the Westboro church. I also hope that any one who sees them protesting calls the police and asks that they be charged with disturbing the peace, creating a public nuisance, inciting a riot , trespass, harassment, or anything thing else one can think of. They want to fight for their rights, then others need to fight fire with fire. Give them a taste of their own medicine, then when at the end of the day, the Patriot Guards leave and funeral is over, the place where the members of the Westboro "church" stood will be empty, and their won't be enough members left to bail their cohorts out of jail.
Do not allow such injustices to exist, condoning such behavior is as bad as exhibiting it.
Do the right thing for the right reasons!
